Tourism in Guémené-sur-Scorff

Well known for its traditional andouille sausage, Guéméné-Scorff is the capital of the Pourleth region.

The town center has preserved its medieval structure, with half-timbered houses, street-gabled shops and numerous testimonials to the past.

Guémené owes its origins to a feudal motte built around 1050 by a lord named Guégant. This is the origin of the ancient name Kemenet Guégant, which later gave its name to the town. However, it was the Rohan-Guémené family who left their mark on the town for several generations. From this rich history, we retain the remains of the castle, which can be visited today, but above all the “Bains de la Reine”, a medieval steam bath enriched with a museum space that reveals all the secrets of hygiene in the Middle Ages. A stroll through the streets and alleys of the historic center is a must to discover the charm of the old houses, worthy heirs to the Middle Ages. To discover these old quarters, drop by the tourist office to pick up the recommended itinerary for a lovely urban stroll. Finally, it’s impossible to think of Guémené without immediately thinking of its famous andouille sausage and its producers, who talk endlessly about the artisanal production of this specialty, the pride of the Guémenois. This famous andouille, recommended by the greatest chefs in French gastronomy, gives rise to a major festival every year at the end of August.
